Maid Marion Adult Costume

Maid Marion was a beautiful renaissance maiden, you can be her this Halloween in this gorgeous costume.

The light blue velvet looking gown has a low cut square neckline with a gold border trim.  The inset of the dress is a blue and maroon pattern.  It is also duplicated on the puff sleeves.

The sleeves are straight to the elbows and then flare into a bell.

Now that you have been introduced to some of our Women Renaissance Costumes let’s explore a little about the Renaissance itself.

Renaissance is rebirth in French.  That is just what happened in the fourteenth to the seventeenth centuries.  It was a rebirth from the dark ages.  It helped move the world forward to the modern age.  This movement began in Florence, Italy.  It began in Florence because the rich were patrons of the arts and supported the artists.

Such artists as Leonardo de Vinci and Michelangelo began this rebirth period in art.  They studied the human body and became more realistic in drawing it.  Many renaissance scholars studied the Latin and Greek authors. It was a time of learning and studying.  It was a rebirth and a blossoming of many great art forms.

A renaissance faire or festival usually lasts two to three days.  Most of these fairs are set in the time of Queen Elizabeth I of England.  Most fairs are set up to show a typical English village of this time period.  Most festivals have stages set up for performances.

Usually there is a Shakespeare play,  jugglers, singers and entertainers.  Everyone is in costume for that period of time.  There are also actors that roam the crowd entertaining the people.  These fairs are fun and very popular.
